Therapy is an open space for you to talk with a professional about any concerns you may have in life. Sometimes therapists specialize in certain areas, but many therapists are trained to talk about a wide variety of concerns.
You may feel like you would like to talk to someone who can give you more help than those close to you. Sometimes friends and/or family might suggest therapy. That's ok! Often others see things about ourselves that we might intentionally or unintentionally overlook. A therapist can help you with those issues.
Not every therapist is a good fit. You can take recommendations from friends or do an online search. But you need to feel comfortable with the therapist you choose. It may not be in the first session, but within a few visits you should "click" with your therapist.
Therapy can help with a wide variety of issues, including social skills, adulting, and getting to know your inner self better.
You can talk about ANYTHING in therapy! If there is anything that is concerning to your therapist, they will let you know.
The stigma around going to therapy is steadily decreasing, and many people now see it as a normal part of taking care of their health. You can think of therapy the same way you would think about consulting a professional for any important issue in your life — like hiring a contractor to build a house, talking to a mechanic about your car, or seeing a doctor when you’re not feeling well.
